Walking

Spain • Andalucia • Grazalema Natural Park

Flowers in Grazalema Orchids and orioles With so many local wild flowers, our guide David Lanfear has a busy time identifying the dazzling daily array of species. The joys of digital photography mean that all finds can be reviewed over a cool drink each evening.
Some of our days

Arrival day
Leaving Málaga we arrive at our hotel just outside Grazalema in time for a quick explore before dinner.

Campabouche to Montejaque
Starting our walk at the Campabouche river, an excellent place for bird watching, we descend towards Montejaque through cork woods and green valleys edged by limestone cliffs. We pass abandoned farms and enjoy all-round views.

The goatherd's leap
Skirting limestone crags and passing through secret valleys, we reach the immense geological fault from which our walk takes its name. Oak forest and lime kilns add interest to our journey which finishes in the village of Benaoján. Good birdwatching and stunning views.

Ravel valley
A good introductory walk on even track into the inner reserve of the Park. It is lined with cistus and bee orchids; common sightings include the flowered orchid and helleborines.

Free day
A chance to visit the historic town of Ronda, explore nearby Grazalema or enjoy a restful day around the hotel.

Valley of the mills
From our hotel we follow a medieval drovers' trail down a river valley dotted with orchards and mills, some of which once drove the looms which wove the famous Grazalema blankets.

The green gorge
Today's walk explores a dramatic gorge, whose rocky ledges are home to 200 pairs of griffon vultures. A stroll across the hills brings us out in Zahara.

Departure day
After breakfast we return back to Málaga airport for 10.00.
