Guided walking holiday

Walking

Spain • Andalucia • Sierra de Aracena Natural Park

Walkers in Aracena Chestnuts and chorizo The tradition of walking between villages has left a history of wonderful footpaths. These enable us to explore the length and breadth of the Sierra de Aracena, and to discover along the way charming villages with their own quirks and character.
Some of our days

Arrival day
Stopping en-route for lunch, we arrive in Alájar in time to explore this pretty village before a reviving dinner.

Around Alájar
From our hotel we gently climb the Sierra de Arturo enjoying the view of Alájar, pass through the hamlets of Los Madroñeros and El Calabacino, encircled with allotments and travel through woodland dappled with light and ribboned with streams.

Meandering past mills
We follow a picturesque brook taking us through a dramatic gorge with wonderful rock formations, and passing a stream of abandoned old mills. Further along we may see the occasional fighting bull, hopefully from the other side of the fence!

Up north
Today's walk gives us a chance to explore some of the paths and villages north of Alájar before dropping down to the beautiful village of Linares, well known for its citrus groves.

Free day
A great chance to visit Seville or the nearby regional centre of Aracena.

Chestnuts forever
Wonderfully varied landscapes, lush orchards and the village of Castaño del Robledo are the day's highlights. We ascend arid hilltops along old Roman roads and through shady chestnut and cork oak forests.

Churros and cheerios
Starting with a snack of churros, we follow the old cobbled route up to the Puerto de Linares, on to Linares, and finally circle back home to Alájar. A farewell to the Sierra.

Departure day
Breakfasting early, we arrive at Málaga airport by 11.00.
