Guided walking holiday

Walking

Italy • Tuscany • Val d'Orcia

Walkers in tuscany Culture and viniculture A wonderful week of wandering through quintessential Tuscan landscapes in the Val d'Orcia. Sinuous paths lead tantalizingly from one historic hill top town to another, passing through vineyards, olive groves and cool woodland.
Some of our days

Arrival day
Leaving Rome we arrive in San Quirico d'Orcia in time for a brief exploration of this medieval town.

Montepulciano to Pienza
Departing Montepulciano, with its twisted medieval alleyways, we follow gentle tracks through the vineyards by the town and across the hills to Pienza.

Walking route through Tuscany

From Pienza to home
Leaving the renaissance 'new town' of Pienza we follow the dusty white tracks that snake their way through fields and forests to our home in San Quirico d'Orcia.

Abbazia di Sant'Antimo
From our front door we follow an ancient route to the Abbey of Saint Antimo. A day of walking trough olive groves and woodlands of evergreen oak and laurel.

Free day
A chance to enjoy the pool, explore the old town or spend the day in the irresistibly classic city of Siena.

A day in wine country
From Greve we pass trough typical Chianti country to the monastery of Badia di Passignano and then on to the castle of Colognole.

Pienza to Bagno Vignoni via Monticchiello
A uniquely different day spent crossing the Crete Senesi – one of the most amazing landscapes in Italy. The near desert region has a gentle bleakness with occasional houses and lines of Cypresses, the only signs of habitation – a marvellous day to remember.

Departure day
After an early breakfast we arrive back at Rome Fiumicino airport for 10.15.
