Guided walking holiday

Walking

France • Provence • Les Alpilles

Provencal landscape Mountains in Miniature Gentle paths lead us through this exotic corner of Provence, crossing the tiny mountain range of Les Alpilles and leading through vineyards, olive groves, fertile water meadows, cool woods and shade-dappled Provençal villages.
Some of our days

Arrival day
We arrive in Maussane-les-Alpilles in time to settle in and explore this shade-dappled Provencal town.

Windmills and Watermeadows
A gentle first day's walking passing windmills immortalised by Alphonse Daudet and continuing through cool woodland and delightful water meadows. All day Les Alpilles lie shimmering ahead of us.

Foray into Les Alpilles
A circular walk from the nearby fortified hilltop town of Eygaliéres. Small, rocky paths lead us through the far western side of the Alpilles, returning through sun-drenched vineyards with time to relax in a shady bar or explore the village.

In the shadow of Les Alpilles
We begin in the delightful village of Aurielle and walk, just beneath the Alpilles, back to Maussane, passing through olive groves, vineyards and cool woodland.

Free day
An optional trip to Arles, with its lively café filled squares, art galleries, shady streets, fine Renaissance buildings and well preserved Roman remains.

Markets and Medieval Castles
After a trip to the bustling market of Saint-Remy-de-Provence, we take cool woodland paths out of town, climbing gently up to a ridge which we follow to the medieval village of Les Baux - extraordinary rock formations and one of France's most famous sites.

Wandering towards wine
Leaving Les Baux we follow the ridge of the eastern extreme of Les Alpilles before dropping down to join the painters for a wine and food tasting.

Departure day
We leave after an early breakfast to arrive at Marseille airport by 10.00.
