Castles in the air We stay in Monte Castello di Vibio, an elevated eagle's nest of a village with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, famous for its castles and unspoilt medieval hilltop towns.

Some of our days

Arrival day
We arrive at Monte Castello di Vibio in time for an exploration of this beautiful walled town.

Nests, nooks and crannies
We spend the morning amidst gentle farmland looking up at this elevated eagles nest of a village. After lunch we explore the ancient alleyways inside the village.

Castles and monasteries
Dropping down below our village we go to Fratta Todina a fortified town protected by a castle. The Franciscan monastery in the town centre is our location for the afternoon.

A picture of perfection
We cross the Tiber to spend the day at Giano del Umbria, an unspoilt fortified hamlet ringed with olive groves and deep pastoral countryside.

Free day
Spoilt for choice; try Assisi or Perugia.

A turn around Todi
Fast becoming a centre for arts in Umbria, we spend the day in the centre of Todi in the Piazza del Popolo, one of the most thoroughly medieval outdoor spaces in Italy.

Final fling with frescoes
A fabulous final day around the pretty village of Cerqueta. Surrounded by olives and oaks and with frescoes by Perugino it’s a great day all round.

Departure day
We leave after an early breakfast to arrive at Rome Fiumicino by 09.15.
