Painting holiday

Arrival day
After unpacking there should be time for a brief look at the harbour and potential locations for the week.

A day out to Kioni
Today's location is Kioni, a large bay nestling below the hills, with its colourful houses, boats and tavernas. The evening session is on composition.

Sketching in the landscape
We start with tips on keeping a sketchbook, followed by an introduction to pen and wash. We then go out into the nearby landscape to sketch. Our afternoon session is all about tone and colour.

Figures in the landscape
A demonstration of head and neck structure and the surface anatomy of the body is followed by a study of the use of figures in the landscape.

Free day
Relax or paint locally or take a taxi to Kioni, or head into Vathy, the capital and port, with shops and cafés.

A trip into the mountains
We visit Exoghi, a village largely abandoned after the earthquake of 1953. The many churches in this village in the clouds give us a chance to try our hand at perspective and recession.

Discussion and exhibition
Our morning discussion and problemsolving session is followed by painting and sketching around Frikes. The final evening gives us time for an informal exhibition of the week's work.

Departure day
We leave after an early breakfast to arrive at Cephalonia airport by 09.15.
