Next, stir in some basic drawing skills, working to a recipe, keeping things simple at first – with everything you need to hand. Now add some good habits. Finally throw in a dash of panache and there you are! Watercolour magic!

This may all sound very glib but it is all about confidence and sureness, and this short course aims to get you on the fast track to gaining those skills.

We will be thinking of painting as a language; its brushstrokes as the words, and every brush has a ‘vocabulary’ of different marks that you can make with it. How you put them together and the colours you choose will become your style - your dialect if you want to pursue the literary analogy!

With reference to original paintings and demonstrations (which we give away), and using local Cotswold scenes we will explore and learn the ins and outs of paints, brushes and papers.

We consider atmosphere and mood, viewpoint, composition, tone and colour, which in that order are the basis of any approach to effective painting.

All essential materials are provided by us. However, back up notes and personal guidance are provided should you wish to improve the equipment and materials you use.
