Introduction to drawing

Painting

England • Cotswolds • The Five Valleys

Drawing If you believe that drawing skills are an important foundation to painting, this is the course for you.

A drawing can be the scaffold that you dress with colours. As a complement to your pencil marks, drawing with brushes completes the picture, and your work becomes your impression of reality. As with brushes you can make marks with pencils that are the equivalent of words in the language of painting- and there are many ‘words’ to play with.

And by the way drawing is not just about drawing lines. With, a fresh perspective on drawing we will explore how, if you draw what you see it’s not the lines that count. We will, I hope, change the way you interpret the world about you; certainly make you more observant of it.

So, we will explore a variety of expressive ways of using our pencils and then combine these while grappling with perspectives, viewpoints and scale; Situations in and close to the hotel will be your inspiration, together with original drawings and back up notes for your future reference.

We look forward to meeting you and working with you, and should you need to get in touch with your tutor beforehand, please feel welcome contact the office. As ever, they will of course contact you in advance to ensure they are aware of your aspirations.

All essential materials are provided by us. Should you need advice about materials or equipment for the future then your tutor can help.

We hope you will enjoy this brief introduction to important skills and also the beauty of the surrounding Cotswolds.
