Ionian Islands, Ithaca
Ionian Islands, Ithaca

Looking east across the narrow channel from anywhere on Cephalonia’s eastern coastline, the view is dominated by a single island, Ithaca.

Here, in the sheltered fishing village of Frikes we have chosen our base. Sixth largest of the Ionian islands, it is formed by two mountains joined by a narrow ridge. Rugged in the west its softer eastern shore is fertile and marked with bays and sheltered harbours.

The islanders are a people who, for generations, have gone to sea, as did their legendary forbear, Odysseus. The natural beauty and mystery of the Ionian, is encapsulated here, making it a paradise for all lovers of wild places.

Where we stay

This delightful hotel has recently been completely restored. Run for many years by Salvador and his family, it is a real favourite with many of our guests.

The hotel looks directly over the gates of the town square. All the rooms are en-suite and the food is wonderful. Journey time 2 hours.
